6 Saudi AI and Digital Projects Win WSIS 2026 Awards
Six Saudi artificial intelligence and digital projects led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) have received top honors at the World Summit on the Information Society 2026, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The winning initiatives span responsible AI, digital identity, healthcare, generative AI and the preservation of Saudi Arabia’s historical media archives. The awards recognize projects that use digital technologies to support sustainable development, expand digital inclusion and strengthen public trust in emerging technologies.
Among the winners was the AI Service Provider Accreditation initiative, which encourages organizations to adopt responsible and ethical practices when developing or delivering artificial intelligence services.
An early breast cancer-detection program was also recognized for its use of technology to support earlier diagnosis and improve healthcare outcomes.
The other winning projects included the Generative AI Accelerator, designed to support the development and adoption of generative AI applications, and Tahseen, an initiative focused on digitally restoring and enhancing Saudi historical media archives.
The AI Principles and Ethics in the Media Sector project, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Media, also received recognition. The initiative promotes responsible uses of artificial intelligence within the media industry.
Completing the list was Nafath, Saudi Arabia’s national digital-identity platform developed with the Ministry of Interior, which supports secure access to digital services across the Kingdom.
The six projects were selected after nine SDAIA-led initiatives were shortlisted for the WSIS Prizes 2026 in April. The other nominees were the National AI Index, the National Open Data Platform, and the multilingual Data and AI Glossary, which is available in Arabic, English and French.
The recognition reflects Saudi Arabia’s growing international profile in AI, data governance and digital innovation, while supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The WSIS summit, organized under the auspices of the International Telecommunication Union and other United Nations agencies, recognizes information and communication technology projects that contribute to sustainable development and digital inclusion worldwide.
The awards add to SDAIA’s presence at international technology forums as Saudi Arabia continues expanding the adoption of AI and data-driven technologies across government and industry.
