Etisalat UAE and UAE University Sign Five-Year Partnership to Accelerate Applied Research from Lab to Live Network

UAE

ABU DHABI — Flagship telecommunications arm etisalat UAE of the etisalat group and the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) have signed a strategic five year framework agreement designed to accelerate the transition of academic research from university laboratories directly into live commercial network environments while cultivating domestic technological talent.

The long term institutional framework aligns industry operational demands with academic inquiry across three foundational pillars encompassing applied research and shared testbeds, national talent development and capability building, and strategic university advancement. Joint technical initiatives will concentrate on critical frontier domains including artificial intelligence, next generation telecommunications networks, smart mobility, enterprise digital transformation, cybersecurity, data science, sustainability, and healthtech.

Under the applied research track, both entities will co develop technological pilots and establish shared prototyping environments that allow researchers to validate emerging hardware and software architectures against live carrier network conditions rather than isolated laboratory simulations. The agreement facilitates reciprocal access to specialized innovation laboratories and testing facilities while committing both institutions to co author peer reviewed technical papers, industry white papers, and international conference contributions.

To reinforce the domestic digital workforce, the partnership establishes comprehensive academic and industrial exchange mechanisms. Initiatives include structured internships, engineering capstone projects, industrial placements, and graduate employment pathways for UAEU students, complemented by operational hackathons, scholarships, fellowships, and sponsored research assistantships. Furthermore, the framework introduces practitioner lectures, corporate secondments, and joint executive education certifications that blend UAEU’s academic depth with the carrier’s commercial engineering expertise.

Ali AlMansoori, Group Chief People and Culture Officer at etisalat, stated that contemporary technology enterprises require professionals capable of engineering solutions with advanced tools that did not exist two years ago. AlMansoori noted that the agreement places UAEU students directly in front of live telecommunications networks, real operational data streams, and complex engineering challenges during their academic studies while bringing corporate engineers back into university lecture halls to co create capabilities that the commercial talent market has not yet produced.

Professor Rami Beiram, Associate Provost for Research at the United Arab Emirates University, emphasized that academic research achieves its full economic value when it leaves the laboratory environment. Professor Beiram affirmed that operating shared testbeds with etisalat UAE enables faculty and student teams to evaluate breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, next generation networks, and cybersecurity against live commercial traffic, substantially compressing the timeline between a published academic finding and an industrial deployment while connecting graduating researchers directly with an established industry employer.
