CAIRO — Global technology and defense leader Thales International and Egyptian digital transformation and cybersecurity specialist Cyshield have signed a strategic memorandum of understanding to co develop and integrate joint digital products and identity solutions aimed at modernizing border management and electronic passport systems in the Arab Republic of Egypt, while pursuing sovereign infrastructure contracts across key markets in the Middle East and Africa.
The bilateral partnership outlines an operational framework to harmonize and integrate hardware and software solutions engineered by both organizations in accordance with international security and aviation standards. The collaboration focuses on delivering secure, seamless, and scalable digital platforms tailored for critical national security initiatives and public sector modernization programs throughout the regional footprint.
Structured across two flagship national initiatives, the first operational track centers on overhauling digital infrastructure across Egyptian border management. The comprehensive deployment encompasses physical infrastructure upgrades, biometric identity verification engines, next generation automated electronic gates for passenger entry and exit processing, centralized back end port management architectures, and unified front end software applications linking the country’s air, land, and maritime ports into a single integrated network. Designed to strengthen national border intelligence and preempt security threats across more than 32 border crossing points, the modernization directly supports Egypt’s national economic roadmap to scale port handling capacities and welcome 30 million tourists annually by 2030.
The second strategic project focuses on modernizing the sovereign software and hardware platforms governing the issuance of electronic passports and biometric citizen data registration across the Arab Republic of Egypt. The combined technical architecture is engineered to support the nationwide rollout of Egypt’s new e passport, establishing a resilient, tamper proof passport issuance and identity lifecycle management system.
Dr. Mustafa Issa, Chief Executive Officer of Cyshield, stated that the partnership enables the seamless integration of international innovation from the global Thales Group with Cyshield’s localized engineering and implementation capabilities to deliver top tier digital platforms across Middle Eastern and African markets. Dr. Issa highlighted that as a wholly Egyptian owned enterprise operating for over a decade, Cyshield has successfully delivered more than 350 projects backed by an engineering workforce exceeding 1,000 specialists across data science, digital platforms, and cybersecurity. He affirmed that following extensive collaboration with government bodies on sovereign national programs, the company’s next strategic objective is to expand beyond its regional stronghold into global markets as an international technology provider.
