Muscat Reaches 98.2% 5G Coverage and 99% School Ultrafast Broadband Access in 2025
MUSCAT — The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the Sultanate of Oman has released its "Telecom Services Overview: Muscat 2025" report, detailing expansion in infrastructure coverage and network capacity across the capital governorate.
According to official data released by the regulator, 5G base stations in Muscat Governorate expanded from 1,774 units in 2024 to 2,031 units in 2025—a 14% year-on-year growth representing an addition of 257 new stations. Total telecom stations increased by 2%, rising from 2,460 to 2,501 sites (41 new stations). Additionally, fiber-optic connections grew by 3%, reaching 386,965 connections compared to 374,131 in 2024 (an increase of 12,834 connections).
Coverage across residential units maintained strong momentum throughout 2025:
5G Residential Coverage: Reached 98.2%, encompassing 433,547 residential units out of a total 441,626 units (up from 420,815 units out of 428,523 in 2024).
Fiber-Optic Residential Coverage: Reached 87.6%, serving 386,965 residential units (up from 87.3% and 374,131 units in 2024).
In the education sector, 100% of public schools in Muscat Governorate remain fully connected to internet services. Out of 177 total public schools recorded in 2025 (up from 171 in 2024), 176 schools (99%) are powered by ultrafast broadband, while 1 school (1%) is served via alternative broadband technologies.
The regulatory milestone aligns with Oman's national digital transformation agenda, strengthening high-speed connectivity across residential, commercial, and public educational institutions.
