Bahrain TRA Releases 2025 Compliance Priorities Scorecard to Elevate Telecom Consumer Protection
MANAMA — The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Bahrain has published its 2025 Compliance Priorities Program Scorecard, measuring regulatory compliance, market transparency, and consumer protection standards across the Kingdom's telecommunications sector.
The independent mystery shopping assessment evaluated Bahrain's three licensed mobile operators—Batelco, stc Bahrain, and Zain Bahrain—across six core consumer protection priority areas: consumer protection and regulatory compliance, roaming, number portability, transparency of retail service packages, billing transparency, and contract summaries.
The 2025 scorecard demonstrated strong sector-wide adherence to regulatory mandates:
Overall Scores: Batelco and stc Bahrain each earned a top score of 92%, while Zain Bahrain achieved 87%.
Full Compliance Categories: All three operators recorded 100% compliance in Number Portability and Contract Summaries, accompanied by robust performance in Roaming operations.
Improvement Areas: The evaluation identified key operational opportunities to enhance retail package pricing transparency and improve the clarity of billing information.
"Protecting consumers and promoting high standards of regulatory compliance is fundamental to the TRA's role," Philip Marnick, General Director of the TRA, said in a statement. "The Scorecard provides valuable insight into operators' performance, drives continuous improvement, and helps to ensure transparency and accountability."
Khalid Al Hashimi, Manager of Consumer Affairs at the TRA, added that identifying both areas of strength and growth enables operators to refine service delivery while supporting the regulator's push for elevated consumer protection standards across Bahrain.
