Ooredoo Launches Qatar’s First 5G+ Mobile Network to Accelerate Enterprise AI, Network Slicing, and Consumer Broadband

DOHA — Telecommunications operator Ooredoo Qatar has officially launched the nation’s first commercial 5G+ mobile network, introducing the next phase of its national mobile infrastructure to deliver higher throughput, massive machine type concurrency, and ultra low latency across the country.

The 5G+ deployment builds upon Ooredoo Qatar’s prior domestic milestones, transitioning from its initial fifth generation commercial activation in 2018 and subsequent standalone (5G SA) core implementation to incorporate 5G Advanced standards. The upgraded radio and core architecture significantly enhances spectral efficiency and data handling capacity, shortening packet round trip transmission windows to empower mission critical industrial automation, real time telemetry monitoring, and high density device connectivity.

In the consumer segment, the 5G+ network is commercially accessible through mobile broadband packages in designated coverage zones across Qatar. The deployment delivers enhanced performance for high resolution video streaming, cloud gaming, and uninterrupted on the move data transfer, timed strategically to support outdoor recreational demand during the annual national winter camping season.

For enterprise and public sector operations, the 5G+ environment establishes an operational framework for artificial intelligence integration, edge computing, and complex cloud computing workloads. Through dynamic network slicing, the operator can allocate dedicated virtual slices with deterministic quality of service parameters tailored to specific operational requirements. Concurrently, expanded Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities facilitate large scale sensor deployments across utilities, connected supply chain assets, and municipal monitoring grids, directly underpinning national smart city infrastructure.

Sheikh Ali bin Jabor bin Mohammad Al Thani, Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Qatar, affirmed that the 5G+ launch reflects sustained capital investments in future proof connectivity, noting that the network enhances everyday consumer digital interactions while strengthening the commercial competitiveness of enterprises nationwide. Sheikh Ali emphasized that from launching the world’s first commercial 5G network in 2018 to deploying Qatar’s first 5G Standalone core, Ooredoo continues to pioneer the connectivity required to support the next era of digital services.

The nationwide network enhancement directly aligns with the developmental objectives established under Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030, fortifying Qatar’s physical telecom layer and consolidating its position as an international digital transit hub.
