stc Bahrain Becomes First Middle East Operator to Launch Firebase Phone Number Verification with Telenor Linx
MANAMA — Digital infrastructure enabler stc Bahrain has formally selected global connectivity provider Telenor Linx as its deployment partner for Firebase Phone Number Verification, establishing the company as the first mobile telecommunications operator across the Middle East to roll out the network level verification architecture.
Announced during the Capacity Europe 2026 conference in London, the cross border partnership addresses a critical evolution in user authentication, enabling commercial app builders, financial technology institutions, electronic commerce marketplaces, and enterprise platforms to phase out traditional manual SMS one time passwords (OTPs) in favor of deterministic, SIM based cellular authentication.
The direct network authentication model utilizes silent background verification to confirm mobile subscriber identities at the carrier signaling layer. By removing the dependency on inbound SMS text messages, the technology eliminates onboarding latency, mitigates drop off rates during mobile account creation, and closes systemic security exposures associated with SMS phishing, subscriber identity module swapping, and unauthorized message interception.
Hesham Mustafa, Chief Business and Wholesale Officer at stc Bahrain, stated that the commercial integration directly supports the Kingdom of Bahrain’s strategic digital agenda by creating a frictionless and fraud resistant operating environment for digital enterprises and individual subscribers.
