DOHA — The State of Qatar and the Italian Republic have convened high level ministerial talks to significantly expand bilateral cooperation across telecommunications, the digital economy, and institutional technology frameworks, with strategic focus placed on artificial intelligence ethics, governance, and startup integration.
The bilateral discussions were led by His Excellency Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Qatar, who received His Excellency Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, alongside His Excellency Paolo Toschi, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Qatar, and senior commercial delegations representing both administrations.
The bilateral docket addressed the formulation of actionable cross border initiatives in emerging technology sectors, specifically evaluating joint mechanisms for responsible artificial intelligence governance, digital industrial manufacturing, algorithmic ethics benchmarks, and bilateral knowledge exchange between national technology enterprise ecosystems. Speaking during the proceedings, His Excellency Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai noted that the institutional alliance with Italy represents a strategic opportunity to advance digital bilateral cooperation into actionable joint ventures. Al Mannai emphasized that priorities include operationalizing joint frameworks in AI governance, expanding digital industry pipelines, and creating direct corridors to accelerate the international visibility of emerging startups through multilateral global showcases.
A focal point of the assembly centered on maximizing Italian enterprise and high growth startup participation in upcoming international technology summits hosted in Doha. Both parties examined structured pathways to guarantee substantial Italian delegations at the second edition of MWC Doha 2026 and Web Summit Qatar 2027, establishing matchmaking forums connecting Italian founders with sovereign capital allocators, regional venture capitalists, and enterprise clients across the Middle East.
