Saudi Arabia Named Vice Chair of ITU WTPF-26 in The Bahamas to Champion Space Connectivity and Digital Resilience
NASSAU — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), has assumed the role of Vice Chair at the World Telecommunication/ICT Policy Forum 2026 (WTPF-26), organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Nassau, The Bahamas.
The high-level United Nations forum was officially inaugurated by the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the Hon. Philip Davis, convening global digital ministers, heads of regulatory authorities, and private sector leaders to build international consensus on global technology policy.
Saudi Arabia’s appointment as Vice Chair recognizes its strategic contributions throughout the forum’s two-year preparatory cycle. During this period, the Kingdom served as Vice-Chair of the Informal Group of Experts (IEG-WTPF-26) and led multiple thematic working tracks and sub-groups, directly shaping the forum’s operational direction and policy outcomes.
Key Deliberations at WTPF-26:
Space Connectivity & Non-Terrestrial Networks: Advancing policy and regulatory frameworks for satellite constellations, direct-to-device communications, and orbital asset coordination.
ICT Infrastructure Resilience: Establishing pre-crisis operational readiness, subsea cable redundancy, and disaster-recovery safeguards.
Sustainable Digital Transformation: Aligning telecom network scaling and high-density data centers with environmental standards and green energy transitions.
Bridging the Digital Divide: Expanding universal, meaningful connectivity models to support underserved markets, remote communities, and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
The Vice Chairmanship underscores the Kingdom’s active multilateral engagement within the ITU, leveraging national technical expertise to advance global digital policies and support international cooperation ahead of the upcoming ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26).
