TDRA Grants Starlink 10-Year Public Space Services License for Satellite Broadband Across the UAE

DUBAI — The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has granted Starlink Satellite Communication Services a 10-year Public Space Services License to deliver commercial satellite broadband internet connectivity across the United Arab Emirates.

The long-term operating license authorizes Starlink’s low-Earth orbit (LEO) constellation to deliver high-speed, low-latency satellite internet services across multiple consumer and enterprise sectors, including individual households, commercial enterprises, government institutions, and mobile operations across the maritime and aviation industries.

The regulatory approval diversifies the UAE's telecommunications infrastructure, enhancing network redundancy and digital resilience while reinforcing the nation's position as a global digital economy hub.

"Granting Starlink a licence to provide satellite internet services in the UAE reflects the country's commitment to adopting the latest technologies and developing a flexible regulatory environment that stimulates innovation and investment," H.E. Eng. Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, Director General of the TDRA, said in an official statement. "The step expands connectivity options and reinforces the UAE's position as a regional and global hub for telecommunications and the digital economy."

H.E. Eng. Mohammad Al Ramsi, TDRA Deputy Director General for the Telecommunication Sector, affirmed that all satellite services deployed under the authorization remain strictly subject to the UAE's approved regulatory and technical frameworks. He noted that the TDRA's approach balances rapid technological adoption with robust safeguards for network security, consumer protection, and data privacy.

The authorization allows the UAE to integrate space-based broadband with existing terrestrial fiber and 5G networks, ensuring continuous connectivity across remote land, offshore waters, and national airspace.
