NBB Group Accelerates Institutional AI Transformation Across Banking Operations Under Group-Wide AI@NBB Strategy

MANAMA — National Bank of Bahrain Group, comprising the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) and the Bahrain Islamic Bank (BisB), has announced major operational progress in its group wide cognitive transformation journey under its dedicated AI@NBB initiative, aimed at deploying responsible artificial intelligence to generate measurable enterprise value.

Across the foundational phases of its digital roadmap, the banking group prioritized establishing enterprise architecture baselines necessary for institution wide deployment. These groundwork initiatives encompassed rigorous sandbox piloting, formulating a centralized corporate artificial intelligence roadmap, upgrading cloud computing and secure database environments, rolling out vetted internal artificial intelligence tools, and institutionalizing a coordinated operating model combining centralized oversight with line of business ownership. With technical and organizational readiness secured, the upcoming phase focuses on optimizing customer experience journeys, workforce productivity, institutional risk management, and operational resilience.

Initial production deployments are already delivering tangible efficiency dividends across several core banking functions. Measurable outcomes include the deployment of NBB’s automated conversational virtual customer assistant, accelerated incident response mechanisms within the group cybersecurity operations center, intelligent automation assisting internal audit and legal document analysis, and autonomous policy and knowledge management systems across select human resources workflows.

To maintain stringent institutional governance, NBB Group established a prioritization framework assessing prospective artificial intelligence implementations against projected commercial value, technical feasibility, and compliance risk parameters. Each initiative addresses a verified business requirement and operates under strict human in the loop oversight benchmarks.

To support this expanded implementation phase, NBB Group is deepening its technical collaboration with Manama based technology firm Arye Innovation. Building on an alliance initially announced in November 2024, Arye Innovation provides specialized software engineering and structured knowledge transfer to upskill internal staff, while NBB Group retains absolute sovereign ownership of its overarching artificial intelligence strategy, data assets, and targeted commercial deliverables.

Group Chief Executive Officer Usman Ahmed affirmed that artificial intelligence delivers true strategic utility when it directly enhances client interactions, empowers banking personnel, and mitigates enterprise risk. Ahmed stated that the group has maintained a disciplined, results oriented investment thesis focused on generating verifiable economic and operational returns for customers, employees, the group, and Bahrain’s broader financial ecosystem under Economic Vision 2030.
