Saudi Cabinet Approves Statute of UNESCO-Affiliated International Center for AI Research and Ethics

RIYADH — The President of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, expressed his gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, following the Cabinet's approval of the statute for the International Center for AI Research and Ethics.

The International Center for AI Research and Ethics, operating under the auspices of UNESCO in Riyadh, represents a major milestone in advancing Saudi Arabia’s global initiatives toward responsible artificial intelligence. According to Dr. Al-Ghamdi, the approval provides a strong foundational framework for the center to drive research and development, build technical capacity, raise awareness around ethical AI frameworks, and contribute to global policy development alongside international institutions.

The center will collaborate closely with SDAIA across multiple developmental tracks to advance ethical guidelines, issue policy recommendations, and support global capacity-building programs. These efforts align directly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNESCO’s strategic priorities.
